Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu: Luxury Hotel Review
Check in Experience at Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu
Rating: 5/5
The check-in experience at Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu was truly seamless. From the bellhop opening our car doors and tagging our bags, to being guided straight to the check-in counter with no waiting in line after a long travel day. As you climb the steps into the hotel, you are welcomed by an open-air bar with large windows overlooking the ocean. The entire hotel is beautifully decorated with Thai-inspired touches, including the staff, who are dressed in beautiful traditional Thai dresses and coats. Once checked in, a welcoming team member guides you through the hotel to your room, pointing out the different areas, restaurants, and amenities along the way, with the bellhop following close behind with your luggage. It made it so easy to just arrive and start the holiday.
The Rooms at Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu
Rating: 5/5
Stepping into the Premier Seaview Room for the first time, the first thing that struck me was how bright, airy, and uncluttered everything felt. The room was perfectly simple, with nothing feeling overdone, just a beautifully calm space that made you want to exhale and relax.
On arrival, a little welcome setup was waiting for us. Two fresh mangoes, a wooden woven basket filled with chocolates, and an iced edible decoration with Dusit Thani written across it, which I thought was a lovely personal touch. The wardrobe offered plenty of storage for two people, which is always something I appreciate on a longer stay.
The private balcony with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the infinity pool, ocean, and Cebu skyline below was an immediate highlight. It was where we found ourselves spending our early mornings with white ceramic tea cups and our evenings taking in the sparkling Cebu city lights.
The room itself is bright, simple, and airy, and honestly makes you feel like you are right on the edge of the ocean. At 37 square meters, there is plenty of space for two, but the real highlight is that private balcony with panoramic sea views. With the doors open, you can hear the waves crashing below from the moment you wake up, which makes rolling out of bed a lot easier than it should be. The room is beautifully appointed with a king bed, bathtub, and all the little touches you would expect from a luxury hotel, including a minibar, high-speed wifi, bathrobes, and a bedside control panel so you never have to get up to adjust the lights. It is the kind of room you will not want to leave…until you see the infinity pool overlooking the ocean below.
The bathroom was split into three sections, with the toilet on the left, a bright vanity stocked with all the essentials, and a separate shower and tub to the right. The lighting was perfect for doing your hair and makeup at the vanity, but also easy to dim for a relaxing bath before bed. The shower was always warm with water pressure that genuinely massaged your scalp every time.
The king bed felt like falling into a soft cloud. Between the cozy pillows and soft bedding, it was easy to enjoy the fresh air during the day with the balcony door open and then turn up the air conditioning at night to snuggle up in the comforter. As someone sensitive to light, I loved how easy it was to completely envelop the room in darkness without even needing my eye mask. The room was always quiet too, making it feel like our own secluded little slice of paradise.
The attention to detail was obvious throughout our stay. Staff freshened up the room and restocked bathroom amenities while we were out each day, and after dinner, we would often return to find fresh water bottles waiting on the bedside table, soft foot mats beside the bed, and a fluffy bath mat in the bathroom. Those small touches really do make all the difference.
I appreciated the hotel's efforts to be more eco-friendly, including encouraging guests to wash and reuse towels less frequently. One small suggestion would be offering a reusable water bottle or pitcher in the room to help reduce plastic use. A little touch that could go a long way.
Dining at Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu
Rating: 4.5/5
Breakfast at Tradewinds Cafe:
Breakfast at Tradewinds Cafe was immaculate, and I genuinely looked forward to it every single morning. The spread was incredibly diverse, offering local Filipino dishes, Italian-inspired options, Western classics, an entire bread station with every jam and topping you could think of, a kids’ area, fresh juice, and, honestly, everything you could possibly imagine.
Staff were always on hand and ready to help, particularly when it came to identifying dairy- and gluten-free options for me—there was even a dedicated loaf of gluten-free bread, which I always appreciate. Every morning, my plate was full of color and flavor.
Eggs your way, coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and local daily dishes were all served directly to your table. There was an espresso maker inside as well.
The dining area itself features bright floor-to-ceiling windows, some of which are left open to let in the breeze, making the whole space feel light and refreshing. Sitting outside, you are right on the oceanside, enjoying your breakfast with calm water beside you. There is also plenty of indoor seating for those who prefer to stay cool.
With breakfast running every morning from 6:00 AM until 10:30 AM, I felt like it covered every kind of breakfast person, which you do not often find at hotels. I am an early riser and was happy to see an early breakfast start time that accommodated my schedule. They also serve a buffet lunch and themed buffet-style dinners.
Benjarong:
If you are wondering where the best place to eat in Mactan Cebu is, look no further. Considered the gem of Dusit Thani, Benjarong was by far the highlight dining experience during our stay, offering an authentic Thai menu in a beautifully elevated setting. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the water, and an open kitchen at the back gives you a glimpse of your food being freshly prepared.
After being seated, we were welcomed with a beautiful light purple drink with a purple petal floating on top, a small touch that immediately set the tone for the meal. The menu is a Thai food lover's dream, with curries, wok dishes, spring rolls, and everything in between. I enjoyed fresh spring rolls, tofu curry, pad thai, and mango sticky rice, all prepared with genuine care for my gluten-free and dairy-free diet. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented…the kind of meal where you can tell real thought has gone into every dish.
This is definitely a restaurant I could keep coming back to.
Sunset Sports Bar:
This restaurant offered a more laid-back vibe with a worldwide sports theme. With a couple of screens around the space, it is a great spot to catch a game back home with a beer at the bar or enjoy the match over a meal at one of the many tables. The restaurant is open and airy, with one side completely open to the infinity pool outside.
It is also a fun place to hang out during the day and into the evening, with a pool table, chess, billiards, darts, foosball, and more to keep you entertained.
Though more casual in atmosphere, it is still a lovely spot for a date night, sitting alongside the open doors and taking in the sunset over the infinity pool and ocean, followed by the sparkling city skyline. The nightly themes change each day, and we enjoyed a fun Bingo night with discounted meals and drinks, as well as an American-themed evening.
The menu includes authentic Filipino dishes listed as "heritage on a plate" options, a wonderful addition for travelers seeking local flavors. There are also pizzas, pastas, chicken dishes, and an entire sustainable menu curated with locally sourced ingredients, a touch I really appreciated.
Personally, I found the menu a little limited for my gluten-free, dairy-free, pescatarian diet, particularly on American night (funnily enough). I think the menu could benefit from more fresh seafood and vegan options. That said, the team was extremely accommodating and always found a way to put together something I could enjoy, even if it meant adapting a dish. The food was, as always, fresh and flavorful.
The Deli:
An adorable, bright corner cafe overlooking the infinity pool, offering specialty coffee, beverages, sweets, ice cream, and pastries. The perfect spot for your afternoon pick-me-up between pool sessions.
The View:
Located near the lobby, The View is a beautiful open-air bar with large floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the ocean. It is the perfect spot to enjoy a cool drink and a refreshing breeze, whether you prefer the circular bar or the cushioned floor seating. Although the bar itself is stunning, I did not find myself spending much time here, as I do not drink alcohol. That said, non-alcoholic beverages are available, and the space alone is worth a peek, especially for the views.
A draw for me to Dusit Thani is their dedication to sustainability. They focus on sourcing their food locally and growing some of their own herbs.
The Pool & Amenities
Rating: 4.5/5
THE POOLS:
Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu has two pools, and my favorite was the large panoramic infinity pool facing the ocean and Cebu city skyline. The pool is lined with plenty of seating options, from lounge chairs in the shallow water to pool beds with canopies, fully shaded spots, and umbrellas dotted throughout. Tall palm trees are sprinkled around the area, and with fresh coconuts being sold poolside, it genuinely felt like a proper island holiday.
The pool has two shallower sections that are perfect for kids, though honestly, I loved this area just as much for lying out in the sun while staying cool. White ceramic nautilus shell-shaped fountains pour water into the pool, adding a lovely, luxurious touch. The hotel building sits behind the pool, providing natural shade through the early afternoon, and throughout the day, an adorable little ice cream cart is rolled out for a sweet poolside treat.
The water temperature was always refreshingly cool, the views from the infinity edge were beautiful, and I never once struggled to find somewhere to lie down. Honestly, we did not stray far from this pool the entire trip. Tucked away in a quiet corner near the ocean, there is also a billowy canopy set up for outdoor massages, which is as dreamy as it sounds.
The pool stays open until 10:00 PM, meaning you can enjoy the sunset and Cebu’s twinkling skyline while you float in the pool.
The second pool, or as I like to call it, the Jungle Pool, is a smaller pool tucked further back from the main infinity pool. Surrounded by massive green leaves, bushes, palm trees, and canopies that shade the entire area, it has its own peaceful little world. A multi-tiered waterfall pours into the pool, making it the perfect escape for anyone looking to get out of the sun.
THE PRIVATE BEACH:
Dusit Thani has its own private beach located just below the hotel. Think pebbled white sand, lazy lounge chairs, and sparkling multi-hued water. It is a beautiful sight, especially from the balcony above. I spent a few hours here, though the infinity pool had me mostly glued there, if I am honest.
Water shoes are available for free on the beach and are required before entering the water. I did a little snorkeling while I was here and noticed some debris on the seabed, which is unfortunately common across many beaches in the region. That said, I love that Dusit Thani is actively working to improve its shoreline through a pilot seaweed farm sustainability project and beach clean-ups.
Before you reach the beach, there is a small scuba diving shop offering everything from introductory dives to certified and night dives, nearby reef dives, and more challenging sites further out. They also organize snorkel trips, sunset cruises, kayaking, jet skis, parasailing, and plenty of other water activities. I did not dive on this visit, but I love knowing that next time I can combine a luxury stay with diving all in one place without having to go far.
THE SPA:
My experience at the spa was genuinely one of the highlights of my entire stay. The room itself was softly lit and filled with the most relaxing scents, and even the bed was incredibly cozy, setting the tone before the massage even began. I enjoyed a one-hour massage that was truly focused on what my body needed, with my therapist taking her time to work out deep knots in my back and shoulders that I did not even know were there. I walked out feeling like a weight had been lifted, and I am not exaggerating when I say I felt looser and more relaxed for weeks after. Easily one of the best massages I have ever had.
THE GYM:
I was happy to find a gym on the property during my stay. It was clean, spacious, and bright, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the ocean that made the whole space feel light and airy, very much in keeping with the rest of the hotel. It had everything I needed, treadmill, free weights, plenty of floor space, and working out while looking out over the ocean and sunny skies made the whole thing feel like a breath of fresh air.
HOTEL SHOP:
Forgot something for your holiday? You do not even have to leave the hotel. There is a small shop on the property stocking everything you might be missing, from clothes and bathroom essentials to sunscreen. It is also where you can book scuba diving, snorkeling, and other aquatic activities. Just beside the shop is another desk where you can arrange day excursions to places like the Moalboal sardine run, Kawasan Falls, the Bohol Chocolate Hills, and more, making it incredibly easy to explore the region without any of the planning stress.
There is also an indoor children's play area nearby, making Dusit Thani a great option for families traveling with little ones.
Is Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu Worth It?
Overall Rating: 4.5 / 5
So is Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu worth booking? Here is my honest take.
The rooms were genuinely wonderful. I slept better than I have in a long time, the views from my balcony were beautiful, and the space felt warm, cozy, and calm throughout our entire stay.
The pool is spectacular. There are two to choose from, one tucked away for shade and seclusion, and one massive pool with panoramic views over the ocean and city skyline. Honestly, the pool alone is reason enough to book.
The food was excellent, particularly Benjarong and Tradewinds, which I would both go back to in a heartbeat. The massage was hands down one of the best I have ever had. My therapist genuinely took the time to focus on exactly what my body needed, which I rarely experience at hotels. And the staff throughout the entire stay were wonderful, always warm, always smiling, and always ready to help.
The location is a bit of a mixed bag. Being just 30 minutes from the airport is incredibly convenient, and the distance from Cebu City means you are far from any noise or chaos. That said, popular attractions like the sardine run in Moalboal and Kawasan Falls are roughly 2 to 3 hours away. The hotel can coordinate tours directly, which makes the logistics easy, and honestly, feeling safe enough to nap on the ride back after a big day out is not the worst thing in the world.
The private beach was lovely, though I noticed some debris on the sandy bottom when I tried snorkeling. Trash is, of course, always a big issue across the Philippines, and I imagine most of it is not from the hotel, but hopefully it improves over time. Something that genuinely drew me to Dusit Thani was their commitment to sustainability, from sourcing food locally and growing their own herbs to their pilot seaweed farm along the shoreline. Small steps that go a long way.
Overall, Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu earns a solid 4.5 out of 5 from me and is easily one of the most beautiful and well-rounded luxury hotels in Cebu.
Travel Essentials for Cebu
Download an eSIM before you arrive so you are never left without data in an unfamiliar place. I always use Airalo and have never been let down.
Never travel without the right insurance to cover you for sickness, injury, or theft. Safety Wing is by far the best travel insurance I have used in my five years of travel.
Reef safe sunscreen, a sunhat, a rashguard, and any other sun protection you might need.
Underwater camera or GoPro for the sardine run, diving, and waterfalls. Some tour organizers do offer GoPro rentals.
A dry bag for your waterfall and diving adventures.
Mosquito repellent, to protect yourself from annoying itchy bites and mosquito-borne illnesses.
