Best Beaches in Nusa Lembongan for snorkeling, surfing, & sunbathing

BEACH PRO TIPS:

  • Pack your swimsuit! — DUH, you can swim at the beaches in Nusa Lembongan.

  • I always recommend bringing a refillable water bottle everywhere you go and the beach is no different. Some beaches have services, whereas others do not. It is always best to have water with you in case there is none available on the beach for purchase. Bali Eco Deli has a free waterfill station!

  • Sunscreen! (Reef safe if you can) – The sun is super intense in Nusa Lembongan, so be sure to protect your skin. But also be mindful of protecting the island’s incredible reef and corals.

  • Be safe driving your motorbike and please, wear a helmet. It is not cool to take a chance on your life by riding helmet-free. Accidents happen with all of the potholes and unpaved roads, so go slow and be as safe as you possibly can.

  • Take your trash with you! – Help keep Nusa Lembgonan clean by picking up after yourself and using as little plastic as possible if you can :)

  • Pack your snorkel and mask— the island has some epic snorkeling spots like Manta Point and some amazing scuba diving sites to explore.

#1: Secret Point Beach

A view of the turquoise waters of Secret Beach in Nusa Lembongan-- one of the best beaches.

Dreamy turquoise waters to spend the entire day in.

The Not So Secret Beach- This postcard-worthy spot is located on Nusa Lembongan’s smaller neighbor, Nusa Ceningan, and is easily accessed via the iconic yellow bridge connecting the two islands. Descend the stone steps to reach Secret Point Beach, where insanely clear water fades from light aqua to deeper blue, making it one of the dreamiest places to swim and float your worries away. You can also relax on one of the tall swings resting in the water while taking in the surrounding cliffs and capturing a few truly Instagram-worthy photos. There is a restaurant right at the beach, which makes spending the entire day here even more tempting.

Like much of Nusa Lembongan and Ceningan, Secret Point Beach can experience strong swell, so it is always best to check the conditions before hopping in the water.

#2: Dream Beach

A view over Dream Beach in Nusa Lembongan, one of the best beaches on the island.

Dream Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Nusa Lembongan to spend the day!

Dramatic Coastal Cliffs - Dream Beach is one of the most popular beaches on Nusa Lembongan, and for good reason. It features a wide stretch of soft, powdery sand, with gentle blue tones meeting a rugged, cliff-lined coastline. There is also a restaurant right on the beach serving up delicious food and fresh coconuts, making it easy to stay refreshed and full during your beach day.

Swimming here is best left to strong swimmers, as the waves can be incredibly powerful and may pull you out toward the ocean. Be mindful of the conditions before getting in the water. If you are looking for somewhere safer to swim, you can head to one of the infinity pools at the restaurants and hotels perched above the cliffs, or continue to the next beach on the list, Hidden Beach.

#3: Hidden Beach

A view of one of the best beaches in Nusa Lembongan: Hidden Beach.

A view of one of the best beaches in Nusa Lembongan: Hidden Beach.

A Secluded Paradise - Located just on the other side of the popular Mushroom Bay lies a magical beach called Hidden Beach, which is only accessible during low tide. As you enter this hidden haven, coral decorations gently blowing in the breeze welcome you in. Rocky outcroppings line much of the beach and coastline, but if you venture farther to the right, you will find the perfect spot with shade to set up for the day. This small section has fewer rocks, making it an ideal place to cool off in the beach’s ombre blue waters that fade from crystal clear to turquoise and then to deep blue. The rocks on the right jut out into the ocean, giving Hidden Beach a secluded, cove-like feel and earning its place among the best beaches in Nusa Lembongan.

Bonus: You can enjoy some nice snorkeling here during low tide on a calm, sunny day.

Pro Tips:

  • Bring your own food and beverages, as there are no amenities directly on this beach.

  • Always be cautious of the currents and waves, as they can be extremely powerful.

  • This beach is only accessible during low tide. At any other time, the beach disappears as the water reaches the tree line and the waves become too strong.

  • The road leading to this beach is on the other side of Mushroom Bay. You will know you are heading in the right direction when you see toilets and a bit of trash along the road (sadly). I recommend wearing shoes when walking down the path to reach the beach.

#4: Song Lambung Beach (Coconuts Beach)

The best private little slice of paradise on Nusa Lembongan is Coconuts Beach.

Coconuts Beach, the perfect little slice of paradise.

A Beginner’s Surfer’s Paradise - Song Lambung Beach, also known as Coconuts Beach, is a small, cove-like beach tucked beneath Nusa Lembongan’s dramatic island cliffs. It is best known as a beginner-friendly surf spot, with soft, rolling longboard waves that are easier to catch and far less powerful than many of the breaks around the island. If you are new to surfing, there is even a surf school right on the beach, while more confident surfers can paddle out to The Playground to work on leveling up their skills.

If surfing is not your vibe, Coconuts Beach is still a lovely place to cool off and relax. The sandy bottom makes swimming easy, and when the waves are calm, you can also enjoy some light snorkeling. Trees lining parts of the beach provide natural shade, making it a perfect spot to escape the sun and settle in with a good book.

Getting to Coconuts Beach is a highlight of the experience. The walk follows a scenic, flower-lined boardwalk along the coastline, with picturesque views over Nusa Lembongan, orange-roofed houses, and the ocean below. As you descend the stairs, you will arrive at a small sandy cove with Niles Warung behind you on one side and a tiny cafe offering coffee and ocean-facing seating on the other. Whether you are after a quick drink with a view or a casual local lunch, this beach has you covered.

Nearby, you may spot a floating pontoon bar just offshore. You can catch a free boat ride over from Coconuts Beach, as long as you purchase something from the bar, and enjoy floating on Lembongan’s turquoise waters as the day winds down.

There are boats anchored in the water here, so always be mindful of where you are swimming.

#5: Jungutbatu Beach

Daytime view of Jungutbatu Beach in Nusa Lembongan showing turquoise ocean water, sandy shoreline, and Mount Agung across the water.

A daytime view over Jungutbatu Beach in Nusa Lembongan, with turquoise water and white sand.

The Main Beach - Jungutbatu Beach is often the first beach that comes to mind when you think of Nusa Lembongan. This long stretch of sand is lined with dive shops, accommodations, and beachfront restaurants, making it one of the most convenient and lively areas on the island. It is also one of the best beaches in Nusa Lembongan for swimming, with calm waters nearly all day, every day.

Jungutbatu Beach is the best beach on Nusa Lembongan to relax, grab dinner right on the sand, and watch some of the dreamiest sunsets on the island. From soft pinks and purples to vibrant oranges and yellows, every evening feels completely different from the one before. One of my favorite spots to enjoy sunset here is Ombak Cafe, where you can treat yourself to gluten-free, vegan banana bread with ice cream as the sun sinks behind the water. On clear days, you can even see Mount Agung (Bali mainland) to your right and Mount Rinjani (Lombok) straight ahead in the distance.

Pro Tip: This beach often has dive boats and local boats coming in and out throughout the day, so be mindful while swimming. Some areas also have bits of broken coral, so watch where you step, especially at low tide.

#6: Mushroom Bay

Mushroom Bay Beach in Nusa Lembongan with clear turquoise water, sandy shoreline, and traditional boats floating in the bay.

Mushroom Bay Beach in Nusa Lembongan, known for its calm turquoise water, soft sand, and relaxed island atmosphere.

Jungubatu’s Smaller Neighbor- To the left of the popular Jungutbatu is Mushroom Bay Beach, another cove-like beach with soft ombré shades of blue. Restaurants and local shops selling everything you might need for an island escape sit just behind the sand, making this an easy place to spend an entire day by the water. Similar to Jungutbatu, the sea here is usually calm with a sandy bottom, making it ideal for swimming and cooling off. The only caveat is the number of fishing boats anchored offshore and ferries arriving from mainland Bali, which can sometimes make it harder to enjoy a fully uninterrupted swim.

You can also enjoy a picturesque view of this beach cove from the coastal boardwalk leading toward Coconuts Beach. From above, you will see colorful boats resting on calm, sunlit water, pale stretches of sand curving along the shoreline, clusters of orange-roofed houses, and Mount Agung rising in the distance.

#7: Sandy Bay Beach

Sandy Bay Beach in Nusa Lembongan with rugged cliffs and blue ocean, one of the best beaches on the island.

A view of the hotel and pool at Sandy Bay Beach.

The Beach Club - Sandy Bay Beach is a quieter beach on Nusa Lembongan’s west coast, known for its dramatic cliffs and laid-back beach-club vibes right on the sand. The waves and currents make it less ideal for swimming, but it’s the perfect spot to wander, unwind, and soak in the scenery. Pop into the Sandy Bay Beach Club for a bite to eat, a cocktail in hand, a dip in the small infinity pool, or just kick back and watch the sunset paint the ocean and cliffs in golden light.

#8-10: The Runner-Ups…

Mahagiri Beach in Nusa Lembongan with wide white sand, calm turquoise water, and distant views of Mount Agung, one of the best beaches in Nusa Lembongan.

Mahagiri Beach palm trees lining the beach.

Mahagiri Beach in Nusa Lembongan, a wide stretch of sandy shoreline with calm water perfect for relaxing, lounging, and soaking up panoramic views of Mount Agung.

Mahagiri Beach in Nusa Lembongan, a wide stretch of sandy shoreline with calm water perfect for relaxing, lounging, and soaking up panoramic views of Mount Agung.

#8: Maha Giri

Maha Giri Beach sits at the top of Nusa Lembongan and has a long stretch of sand, dotted with palm trees, umbrellas, bean bags, and a small warung, but honestly, not much else, which is why it lands as a runner-up on the list of best beaches on Nusa Lembongan. The beach feels a bit barren, but it is great for lying under a palm tree and opening a book.

The water is shallow and a little rocky, and you will notice some old seaweed farms in the shallows. There is a bit of construction on-site, so I can imagine this beach becoming an even better spot once it is cleaned up and developed further. The real highlight, though? Stunning views across to Bali and Mount Agung.

#9: Tamarind Bay

Tamarind Bay is tucked into Lembongan’s jagged limestone cliffs, offering a quieter alternative to some of the busier beaches on Nusa Lembongan. The water here is usually calm and shallow, making it a nice spot to cool off or just wade around without the bigger surf. There are a few shaded spots under trees if you want to spread out a towel and relax. The reason this beach has landed a spot on the runner-up list is due to the amount of trash on the beach.

#10: The Infinity Pool @ Cennigan Cliffs

Infinity pool at Ceningan Cliffs with ocean views and limestone cliffs near Nusa Lembongan, one of the best viewpoints near the best beaches in Nusa Lembongan.

The Infinity Pool at Ceningan Cliffs, overlooking dramatic ocean views and rugged limestone cliffs, easily one of the most iconic viewpoints near Nusa Lembongan.

Okay, okay…I know it is not technically a beach, but this spot is too good to skip. The infinity pool at Ceningan Cliffs is the perfect place to relax, sip a refreshing glass of watermelon juice, and take in the dramatic coastline of Nusa Penida. The restaurant serves snacks, drinks, and meals, making it an ideal stop for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. There are even stools in the pool, so you can just float, sit back, and soak up the epic views.

Nusa Lembongan Quick Travel Guide:

BEST TIME TO VISIT Nusa Lembongan:

  • Rainy Season: November - March | Dry Season: April - October

  • The best time to visit Nusa Lembongan is during the dry season from April to October. The weather will be sunnier with clear skies and less chance of rain. HOWEVER, I have spent time in Nusa Lembongan during the rainy season, and it goes through periods with rainfall, followed by weeks without rainfall. It rarely rained all day while I was there, and I only had shorter showers.

  • For my divers, July through October (more so September/October) is mola mola season. Plus, there are even more mantas during this time (though you can see them year-round).

  • Diving overall on the island is really good year-round.

  • Surfing tends to be best during the dry season as well.

HOW TO GET TO Nusa Lembongan:

Step 1: Fly Into Bali

  • The closest airport is in Bali, in the city of Denpasar: Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). When booking my flights around Asia, I always check Skyscanner for the best routes and deals. Not all regional airlines in Asia will populate on Google Flights.

Pro Tip: Many foreigners traveling to Indonesia receive a 30-day Visa on Arrival upon entry for 500,000 IDR (30 USD), which can be extended an additional 30 days for an additional fee. You can find more information on which countries qualify and apply for this VOA online, here.

Step 2: Airport —> Ferry Port

  • From the airport, you will need to either order a taxi or rent a motorbike to reach Sanur Port.

  • The 21 KM drive can be as short as 40 minutes if you leave before 8:00/9:00 AM, or as long as 2 hours if there is traffic. Motorbikes tend to be faster than cars because they can weave around traffic.

  • Ordering A Taxi: You can order a local taxi, Grab (rideshare app), or GoJek (rideshare app).

    • Local taxis can be ordered right from the airport or through an accommodation.

    • Grab is better than GoJek for longer distances (from my experience). I have had GoJek drivers in the past arrive to pick me up, ask for more money, and when I said no, they have turned around and driven away.

    • For either app, you can choose to ride in a car or on the back of a motorbike. The motorbike is the cheaper option by far. If you have more bags or are uncomfortable being on the back of a bike, weaving through cars for longer hot hours, I do not recommend taking the back seat of a motorbike. You will also have to hold your bags unless they are small enough to fit in the front of the bike.

    • A car is a more comfortable option, but it will take longer with traffic. Car prices vary a lot depending on the time of day and demand.

  • Renting A Motorbike: Motorbike rental businesses are everywhere in Bali for you to choose from. I will say that some are extremely overpriced and untrustworthy, so be sure to read reviews. For my last rental, I used Bikago. They also do bike delivery and pick-up! You can arrange a rental through their website before you arrive. Bali Best Motorcycle is another great option, which you can arrange through WhatsApp.

    • Be aware that the roads and the infrastructure in Bali are not great overall. You should be a confident driver, especially during high-traffic times when you will be navigating around cars and other obstacles. If you have bags, you will either need to wear them or place them near your feet while riding.

    • Always wear your helmet and have your international driver’s license with you in case you are pulled over or stopped by local police.

Step 3: Ride the Ferry

  • The last step is hopping on the 30-minute ferry over to Nusa Lembongan. You can find ferry companies and times here. I usually take Ekajaya or Dcamel.

  • The ferry can be extremely rocky, especially on windy days and big swell days. I highly recommend packing some sea-sickness prevention methods. The ferries are small, packed, and often not air-conditioned. But the plus side… it is only 30 minutes!

  • Sometimes the ferry cannot fully pull up onto the sand, so I suggest wearing shoes that are easy to take off.

How to get around Nusa Lembongan:

  • The best way to get around Nusa Lembongan is actually on foot. Most restaurants, shops, cafes, and accommodations are located along one main road, making walking the easiest and most convenient option for short distances.

  • However, if you plan to visit all of the beaches on this list or head over to Nusa Ceningan, you will need another form of transportation. You can easily arrange a taxi through your accommodation or rent a motorbike on the island. Daily motorbike rentals typically cost around 80,000 to 100,000 IDR per day for a small scooter, with better rates often available for longer rentals. Be sure to negotiate the price before committing.

Motorbike Driving Tip: Always check that the bike is working and take photos of any previous damage made to avoid any arguments with the rental places. Always wear your helmet—so many people do not wear their helmets, which blows my mind. Wearing your helmet could save your life.

WHERE TO STAY in Nusa Lembongan:

The best area to stay in Nusa Lembongan is honestly anywhere on the island, or even on nearby Nusa Ceningan if you do not mind being a bit further away from restaurants and shops (these two islands are connected via a yellow bridge). However, if you want to be within easy walking distance of most places to eat, the main beach strip, and local shops, I recommend staying along the main road in Jungutbatu. Anywhere from Dapur Kecil, along the Jungutbatu Beach coastline, is a great central location and makes getting around on foot much easier. It is also quite a luxury to be able to walk out of your accommodation and onto the beach within 30 seconds.

ARE THERE VEGAN or Gluten-Free OPTIONS on Nusa Lembongan?

Yes, there are so many, and more are being added daily! Here are a few of my favorites:

Nusa Lembongan is very expat-friendly, so you should not have any issues finding food options.

IS Nusa Lembongan SAFE?

  • I have always felt safe in Bali, especially in Nusa Lembongan. There are so many expats living here. I recommend staying up to date with your country’s travel advisories. Follow basic rules of safety while traveling, including:

    • Keep an eye on personal belongings and valuable items. Do not leave them in your bike.

    • Never forget your keys in your motorbike, and never leave anything valuable sitting out. Someone may steal it.

    • Always triple-check vaccination requirements and recommendations for countries. Some potential illnesses include Typhoid and Hepatitis A.

    • Pack mosquito spray to protect yourself from Dengue and Malaria.

    • Wear your helmet when riding your motorbike. So many people do not wear their helmets, and it could quite literally save your life.

    • DO NOT drink the tap water. Keep your mouth closed in the shower and even use bottled water for toothbrushing, especially if you have a sensitive stomach like me!

    • Never travel without the right insurance in case of any sickness, injuries, or theft. Safety Wing is by far the best travel medical insurance. It has saved me numerous times by covering hospital visits when I was sick during my travels in Asia.

  • Get an eSIM—so you do not get lost navigating your way. I always use Airalo for my eSims.

  • Emergency Contact Number: Police: +62 110 | Fire: +62 113 | Ambulance: +62 118 or +62 119

    • You can find a complete list of Bali Emergency #’s here.
